Two 17-year-olds were last night in a detention centre at the start of a very Pathetic 4-month sentence for killing a Rare Breed Pregnant Ewe back in March, but considering the sadistic way they killed her, it should have been a lot harsher sentence to say the very least. They will serve a pathetic two months inside, then two months on a training order.
It was after they had spent the day with another youth drinking, that they chased the ewe around a field in North Norfolk in the early hours of 23 March, before it was then repeatedly beaten and stabbed with a garden fork.
The Court heard that the ewe was left with a dislocated neck, extensive skull injuries, a fractured larynx, broken jaws, broken ribs, a ruptured liver and multiple puncture wounds. They had both admitted at an earlier hearing to causing unneccessary suffering by chasing the sheep and aiding and abetting others to injure it. Reporting restrictions were lifted following a local paper who had argued that it was in the public interest to name them.
Witnesses told the RSPCA that they saw three youths chasing sheep in the field before one shouted; "I've got one, I've got one." Shouts of "Fork him, fork him." were then heard. After the attack had taken place, they dragged the sheep off to some garages they were using as a drinking den. The ewe was later found by police in a wheelie-bin.
Following getting caught for their crime, both youths have tried to say they were sorry, etc., but if anybody believes them, then they are fools to do so. One of them had their defence tell the court that their client had been drinking alcohol all day, accepted he had punched and kicked the sheep, but believed it was dead when he attacked it. I am wondering WHY their respective families allowed them out at that time of night, plus where they were able to get the alcohol from to be able to drink it all day as claimed?
One of the youths was thrown out of the family home and sacked from his job, while the second one who had applied to join the Royal Engineers, has been told his application could now take five years because he got a custodial sentence. Sadly, no order was made for them to pay costs, or compensation to the owners of the Ewe and both were then banned from keeping animals for 10 years, before being led away in handcuffs. I would have made it their entire natural life, the SCUMBAGS.
One of the owners of the ewe said after the hearing: "I hope they enjoy their holiday and you can quote me on that. I'm satisfied and pleased."
There is no mention of the third youth and I believe that is because he was dealt with at another hearing.
