Laughing Yup, I've got 4 trees with my car insurance that will be planted somewhere in the Scottish Borders area. They did have a tree planting site at St Cyrus but that one was filled up. The idea is that planting the trees helps offset the carbon emissions from my car because they remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Apparently the 4 trees will offset my estimated carbon emissions for the year, not to mention the wildlife that will benefit from a new woodland habitat Mr. Green And it wasn't the most expensive either, in fact it was one of the cheapest options!

I use Co-operative. They put money towards Carbon Neutral projects. And they have a great ethical policy.

Also, if you have a Shell garage near you apply for one of those Driver Club Cards. On the form you can decide how you want to spend your rewards. I chose the Carbon Neutral projects option, and Shell match your contributions if you choose that one.

Shell don't have the best environmental record though - they have been behind several oil drilling plans that would destroy important habitats.

I'm afraid that now you have a car you are going thave to buy Petrol, so the choice is generally Esso (very bad) or Shell (bad). There is hardly any BP stations but they have leaking pipes all over Alaska!

Harsh reality, but the way I see it, my car is the closest thing to Carbon Neutral as it's going to get with my Insurance deals and Shell Card.

I always go for the cheapest. The 'free' gifts are exactly that. Insurance companies tend to give you a cheap quote to get your business then screw you over at renewal time. Always shop around!
