Though the official closing date is the 31st of August, Norway's whaling season appears to be drawing to a close with around half of the allocated quota filled.

Meanwhile in Iceland a whale watching vessel has been interrupting whaling activities by placing itself between the whales and the harpoons. The Iceland Whale Watching Association claims that there are fewer minke whales in traditional areas since whaling was reintroduced.

Ditto!
I didn't know that they STILL hunted whales until Just now! Surprised
Why do they?
There seems to be no reason to hunt them anymore! Neutral

Norway conducts commercial whale hunt as they didn't agree to the ban on whaling and ended up excluded from the ban. Japan conducts whaling under the guise of it being scientific (the meat gets sold). Iceland recently started commercial whaling and several groups of people (most live in the Arctic Circle area) subsistance hunt whales. I personally find only the latter acceptable. Japan may give up the scientific hunt for hunting rights around their coastline which may be sorted at the next IWC meeting.

It is mainly minke whales that are hunted but fin whales and a few other species are also taken.
