British woodland birds are in decline despite the area of woodlands increasing. The continued decline that has seen falls as high as 77% is thoughtto be due to increased pressure on woodlands from deer along with changes in the management of wodland. Farmland birds have also continued to show declines.

Where Do these people get their figures from for crying out loud? When we moved here a year ago, we were totally astonished at the amount and variety of birds we now see almost daily, with the odd new one much to our delight. It was said the starling was on the decline, but I can deny that because we have had masses of them, along with Wren, Thrushes and Blue-Tits by the dozen at a time.

This is from wide-scale surveys and long-term data on wild bird populations. Where I used to live we had a good population of starlings, but they are very few of them here. There are patches of area with high numbers of birds (particularly around feeding stations) but elsewhere they are declining. Just go to BTO who conduct most of the surveys (including the garden bird survey).

With your argument, it is like looking at tiger populations based on the one reserve in India with a steady population without looking at populations on a broader scale. It doesn't accurately represent the tiger populations nor does looking at bird populations in a single area. t has to be across the UK to get an accurate view of what is going on.

They are all outside my work! Laughing

Probably an increase in the use of insecticide decimating their food supply!
