Went to see this at the cinema last Thursday and it was a very entertaining movie! The music was far from the best aspects of the film, but then again niether of the leads were actual singers but it didn't make much of a difference. As always with Tim Burton, it was the imagery that made the film shine. If Sweeny Todd was any darker, there would be nothing to see on the screen! But what is it about? Benjiman Barker was a happy father with a beautiful wife, but the local judge took a shine to her and had Barker sent away to prison. Fifteen years later he returns as Sweeny Todd to find his wife dead and his daughter still in the hands of the judge who plans to marry his young charge...resulting in him setting up as a barber and slitting a few throats with his cutthroat razor. Ouch. But what to do with the bodies? Mrs Lovecroft comes up with the most excellent idea...she runs a bakery but meat is expensive and hard to come by...and why let Sweeny's victims go to waste? Yup, they are served up as meat pies! And judging by the turn-out, very good meat pies at that!
