So there was a nest of rabbits in my garden, and a cat found the nest, and killed all the rabbits over a period of three days, except for one. I know I should probably just have left it, and that's nature's way, and blah blah blah, but... it's hard. They reminded me so much of my rabbit, Bella, who isn't here anymore...

So anyways, now I'm taking care of this kit. It's still fairly small, the eyes are still closed. I'm feeding it goat milk, through a syringe without the needle. I think it's a girl... but I'm not sure... I have some pictures...

Can anyone tell me what gender it is?

P.S. Sorry for the bad picture quality, I was trying not to stress her out too much.

I have no idea what gender it is and how likely it will survive but I wish you all the best and you're doing a very sweet thing

Thanks, Samhain.

Last night, she (I'm going to assume it's a she from now on, until someone tells me, I don't like calling animals it) was really restless, because I'd just taken her out of the nest. She was good for a while, but then at about 3:50-something am, she started trying to dig her way out, and she was really stressed. So I took her out and held her for a while, and she calmed down. I think she was cold. I put in more kleenex, and she settled down.

Today I put in a pop can (I don't have a hot water bottle) filled with hot-ish water, so she could lie against that. She seemed to like it. She also has space to move away from it, in case she gets too hot.

She drank about 4 ml of goat milk today, so she needs about 4-7 more ml. Probably more like 6 ml, since she won't be a giant bunny, but she's still sort of skinny-ish.

I don't think there are many... There's the humane society, but I don't know if they have an animal rehab section...

I don't think that you did anything wrong, I have a squirrel who was from a family of 5. Even though I did as much research as I possibly could I couldn't keep all 5 going. You don't know if she maybe got hurt during the attack or if she had a sensitivity to goats milk (which I'm sure is rare, but possible).

I think you did a good thing taking the time to help, the fact just is that the mortality rate in baby anything can be quite high. Love

I dont think you did anything wrong. Unfortunately babies need their mothers and a lot do not survive without them.
I have a kitten (who is currently climbing all over me) and she and the rest of her litter were handreared, by vets, from when they were 2 weeks old. They had 24 hour care, incubators, the lot.
2 out of my kitten's litter still died though.
It's not your fault Christina Love
