@Kat: Luckily you!

@Phil: As far as I'm aware here, they can't make you work Christmas day (although surrounding days they can) cus the actual day is a religious holiday (of course only if you're from the religion celebrating that holiday though).

Phil:

Quote:
A statutory holiday (also known as "general" or "public" holiday) in Canada is legislated either through the federal, provincial, or territorial governments. Most workers, public or private, are entitled to take the day off with regular pay. However, for businesses that are normally open, employers may require employees to work on such a holiday. In this case the employee must be paid at a premium rate -- usually 1½ (known as "time and a half") or 2 times (known as "double time") the regular pay for their time worked that day, in addition to the holiday pay (except for high technology workers in British Columbia).[1] In most provinces, when a statutory holiday falls on a normal day off (generally a weekend), the following work day is considered a statutory holiday.

You also get a vacation by law (I think this is about 2 weeks minuimum but I'm not sure you will need to check the employment laws). Always make sure you know your rights Wink

You are

Yeah.. but some how it depends on how many hours you work and yeah they do pay the time and a 1/2 but its no longer a "free" day off. you have to book it off (not get paid for it) or take a vacation day (witch you get paid for)
It was different in the last position I worked.. cause you didn't have to come in and ya still got paid for it. and no one would hassle you if you didn't want to work.
now its mandatory, treat it like every other day.. accept you get paid more.
I'm not going to worry about it anymore. I have been worrying about so many things as of late I'm not going to let it get me down. Life is too short to worry about stupid things.
