Well, I put a bird feeder on to the tree opposite my work yesterday (13/04) and it didn't take long for the birds to start arriving.

First visitors were Blue Tits, a bit unsurprising I suppose. Then Great Tits. There is a really cool Great Tit that has a white mohican, he was back today as well with more of his Great Tit friends. Also visiting were Goldfinches, Chaffinches, Greenfinches and Blackbirds were picking up the dropped food from the ground.

The Greenfinches arrived today and hogged the feeder for ages. One of Mohicans friends put up a good fight for some grub.

I only put up the feeder yesterday and had to refill it this morning. Then, I had to refill AGAIN at the end of my shift. I'm off for 2 days, but I'm sure they'll be back in no time after I refill it, with more of their friends

Unfortunately my camera doesn't have a good enough zoom to get any good pics of them.

That's very quick! Great putting it up outside your work (though I'd probably end up that distracted by the birds that I'd never get any work done )

I can't believe how much they are eating. I mean it's not a small feeder! Might get another one, there is clearly loads of birds about. The area is surrounded by farmland.

Oh, and I don't really get anything done. As long as the train goes past quickly and without bother then I'm left in peace to stare out the window.

The most frustrating thing to happen was when a Buzzard sat on a fence post just across the tracks, I really couldn't believe how close it was. Then a bloody train went past and it flew off!

That would annoy me soooo much!

I remember once I spent ages creeping up on some shorebirds and then someones dog came charging across and they all flew away!

Sounds like a great to me too. Unfortunately I can't do that, I work in a town, a small one but still... would be mostly pigeons!

I'm going to have to see if my friend will give me a shot of his camera for a day or two.

It's a great area for birds, unfortunately I'm back at Newtonhill in July, so I'll have to make the most of my time.

I work in a pub...so no feeders

My garden and other workplace just attracts Seagulls and Crows.

Well, back to work today. I filled the feeder and all the usual suspects came back. I put some seed and nuts in this time.
The Chaffinches were first. The Blue Tits and Great Tits came in took some nuts away and I never seen them again. The Greenfinches and Goldfinches were around for ages. A female Pheasant took up residence underneath the feeder.
But the best thing of the day was seeing 2 Buzzards hunting for their prey right outside the window at work. It was really cool, they were both really active all afternoon.

That is so cool!

I'm actually looking forward to going to work to see whats going on today.

All the usual suspects were out with a couple of additions. They was another female Greenfinch, a female and male Pheasant in addition to the one from yesterday, a rabbit and my favourite a male Yellowhammer! Also, Mohican was back today, I didn't see him yesterday.

The Buzzards weren't as active as yesterday but they were both out and one of them was getting real hassle from the Crows.

Well, today the Buzzards had decided they have had enough of the Crows, so they got rid of them. How did they do this? Well, **barely containing excitement** there were four of them!! Buzzards that is, working as a team to get rid of the Crows!

That is incredible! I've only ever seen things go the other way (the crows driving away the buzzards)!

Yeah, the Crows were relentless, then all of a sudden two more Buzzards appeared and the Crows got their comeuppance!

I decided to put some seeds and nuts on top of one of the cabinets at work since not all birds like hanging onto a feeder. So that attracted even more birds including Thrushes. That's my seeds finished, I'll have to get more. They sure are a well fed bunch.

Unfortunately, there has been a casualty. One of the female Pheasants got blootered by a train.

Good putting food on the ground though - you should try putting out some fruit I found the thrushes and blackbirds loved that!

I'll give it a go. I wonder how long the harmony will last with all those birds. The only minor scuffle was between the Greenfinch and Great Tit.

They'll soon establish their own pecking order. I found that things tend to go fairly well when I had feeders up. I had fat-cakes out for the starlings and corvids and that kept them off the seed feeders which were left to the tits and finches and I used to put fruit out in the evening when the starlings weren't around for the blackbirds and thrushes.

After 3 days off the feeder was in sore need of re-filling. They didn't take long to come back, if they went away!
Also, while I was off some Housemartins have nested on the Emergency Lights above the downstairs door, luckily we hardly ever use that door! I've had to rescue them from the signalbox dozens of times because they keep flying in!
But my biggest surprise of the day was seeing a Buzzard! Normal I know, but this Buzzard was sitting on the makeshift birdtable about 8ft from me. Got to say I was surprised.
There is a mischievous Crow hanging about but the House Martins are chasing it away because they have young in their nest so they don't want it around.

Well, we'll see what tomorrow brings.
